Angelic Visitors | |
Père Lamy (1855-1931) was a French priest and mystic, blessed with the gift of frequently seeing and communicating with people from Heaven, including Jesus and Mary. His close friends were sometimes present during these mystical conversations. When Père Lamy spoke to his Heavenly guests, his earthly friends often heard responses from these people invisible to them. The following example was recorded by Paul Biver, a man with a master’s degree in science, and who later went on to write a biography of Père Lamy. It was late on the night of November 19th, 1924. Paul had accompanied Père Lamy home. The priest’s sister and brother-in-law were also there, though they’d since gone to bed for the night. Paul and Père Lamy were soon to follow. At 10:15, Paul was in bed, and had just put out his light. After a few minutes, he heard a lively conversation coming from the old priest’s bedroom. Three masculine voices spoke; quite easily and distinctly heard in the silence of the night. Paul was very confused at first, since he knew the priest was alone in his room. And the old creaky house was so still that he would absolutely have heard if anyone had gone upstairs to Père Lamy’s room. But no one had. Then, knowing of the holy priest’s mystical gifts, Paul realized that it must be two heavenly voices he heard along with Père Lamy! One of the two visitors spoke with a clear, loving, strong, manly and altogether pleasant tone. The other voice was not as strong, and spoke less often and "with much more restraint" than the former. Père Lamy’s tone was something between the two. While Paul clearly heard the voices, he could not make out any words spoken. This went on for about seven minutes, before the night was silent again. The next day, on the way to church, Paul asked Père Lamy, "Father, yesterday evening, after having said good-night, you spoke. I heard other voices. Was it the holy angels?" Smiling, the good priest replied, "It might easily be so. They are a consolation in the night." Later that morning Paul spoke to Père Lamy’s sister, but she and her husband were both fast asleep the whole time. Throughout the day, due to his continual questioning, Paul discovered more about the two holy angels. One was Père Lamy’s guardian angel, and the other was St. Gabriel the archangel, to whom the holy priest had great devotion. The one that Paul heard more strongly was the guardian angel. But Père Lamy explained from his own perspective: "I heard one as strongly as the other. It depends on the way they wanted to be heard by you, and also I think from their distance. When the holy archangel wants to speak in confidence [i.e., in private], he speaks very low." It came as no surprise to Paul that Père Lamy would be visited by holy angels. Indeed, the dear priest was their strong advocate, spreading awareness and devotion to them whenever he could. The holy priest knew well that God has given each of us an angel to help us through this life, as well as an angel to guard every home, province, state, and so forth. In his own words… "We don’t give the angels the importance they possess. We don’t pray to them enough. They are very touched when we pray to them. There is great benefit in praying to the angels." "Our guardian angels: we don’t pray to them half enough. What do we do for them? A little scrap of prayer in the morning, a little scrap at night. That’s all. Their mercy is so great towards us and often we don’t use it half enough. They look on us as needy little brothers. Their kindness towards us is extreme." "Nothing is so faithful as an angel. What a memory! He remembers everything…Our guardian angel very often saves us from accidents… [But] among us Christians, how many are there who implore their help and protection? …We don’t resort enough to the holy angels. They are there, but they are left alone. We don’t turn to them sufficiently." |
