The Emperor's Happiest Day

When the Emperor of France, Napoleon I, was at the pinnacle of his fame and fortune, he was approached one day by some of his generals. They were curious to know what had been the happiest day of his life. As he was being asked, they expected him to mention a day on which he had gained some brilliant victory.

Much was their suprise when the emperor stated, “The day of my First Holy Communion was the happiest day of my life, for then I was brought nearest to God.”

In Holy Communion we are united in the closest manner to Christ.
