Two Saints' Scapulars

St. Alphonsus Liguori and St. John Bosco were both great founders of religious orders; St. Alphonsus, in the 18th century, and his Redemptorists; and St. John Bosco working later in the 19th century in his order of Salesians (named after St. Francis de Sales).

Both of these Saints cherished a deep and special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and showed their loving fidelity by wearing her Brown Scapular.

When these holy men died, they were each buried wearing their priestly garments along with their Brown Scapular.

Many years later, when the Saints’ graves were reverently opened, it was found that their bodies and their priestly clothes had decayed into dust. But their Brown Scapulars alone had remained whole and intact! In fact, the scapular worn by St. Alphonsus Liguori is displayed in a Redemptorist monastery in Rome.
