We Can’t Cure Him

The following testimonial, cited by Fr. Alessio Parente, was given by a woman whose friends had recently undergone a tragedy in the family.

"One year ago in July the son of some dear friends was working on some construction work in the mountains. He fell forty feet and landed on his head. A helicopter was sent up to get him and bring him down to Denver Hospital.

"The doctors, after many X-rays, told his parents that along with many fractured bones, his brain was severely injured, and not only could he be completely paralyzed, but mentally he would be a vegetable. He lay in a coma on life support systems day after day without moving a muscle. The doctor advised the parents to let them pull the plug on the life support systems so the boy could die. His parents could not bear to have them do it. He was such a good, kind son they couldn’t bear to lose him. So day after day he just lay there not moving, wired up to artificial breathing, feeding, and heart monitoring machines.

"One day, a few weeks after his accident, my husband and I went to visit him, even though he was still in a coma. He looked so pitiful lying there reduced now to just skin and bones. My husband asked the brother of the boy if he might touch his relic of Padre Pio to the young man’s forehead. After receiving permission, my husband gently rubbed the relic across the young man’s forehead, and we prayed to Padre Pio to help him.

"The very next day the young man moved his foot. From then on he got better and better. The doctors called in all the doctors and nurses who had been attending him and they declared it was a miracle.

"After several months of physiotherapy the young man was able to return to college the following February and next week we will attend his wedding. To see him now one would never think he had been ill. Everyone admits that it was Padre Pio who cured him."
