A Good Cup of Coffee

St. Gemma Galgani (1878 - 1903), was a mystic and stigmatist who saw and spoke with Jesus and Mary many times. Gemma was also blessed to see and hear her Guardian Angel, and had a very special love for him. They were very close. They would pray together and chat with each other, staying up late into the night talking. She learned much from her Guardian, as he would guide her, console her, and often times correct her when she had done wrong. When correcting Gemma, he could be very severe and to the point, because leading her to Heaven was the focus of his desires. But, when the lesson was learned, he would smile again and reassure Gemma that all was well between them.

One incident of many, written by Gemma in her own diary, tells us how natural and close their relationship was. Gemma writes a very brief, but touching moment in her diary, showing how thoughtful and real our Guardian Angels are:

"…Only my guardian Angel does not cease to watch over me, to instruct me and to give me wise counsel. Many times during the day he reveals himself to me and talks to me. Yesterday he kept me company while I ate but he didn't force me like the others do [those of the family she was staying with].

After I had eaten, I didn't feel at all well so he brought me a cup of coffee so good that I was healed instantly and then he made me rest a little. Many times I make him ask Jesus for permission to stay with me all night; he goes to ask and then he does not leave me until morning, if Jesus approves." - Diary of St. Gemma Galgani, August of 1900
