Poe's Poem for Mary

This beautiful poem to Mary was written by none other than the famous American poet and author Edgar Allen Poe (1809-1849). The brief, yet deeply meaningful verses begin with the praying of the Angelus. Poe then continues on, in his own heartfelt and poetic manner, to express gratitude to Our Blessed Mother for always being there, always hearing our prayers and helping us throughout our entire lives.

"A Hymn"

At morn, at noon, at twilight dim -
Maria! Thou hast heard my hymn!
In joy and woe - in good and ill -
Mother of God, be with me still!

When the Hours flew brightly by,
And not a cloud obscured the sky,
My soul, lest it should truant be,
Thy grace did guide to Thine and Thee;

Now, when the storms of Fate o'ercast
Darkly my Present and my Past,
Let my Future radiant shine
With sweet hopes of Thee and Thine!

-Edgar Allen Poe
